The holidays are certainly different this year, but it's still a busy time of year. Holiday shopping, travel, social distancing events, and generally exercise are no longer a priority. Maintaining your health is just as important – if not more important – so here are our tips to help you stay active and healthy during the holidays. PLANNING FOR MOVEMENT If you know that a busy week will keep you from maintaining a regular exercise routine, it's time to plan ahead. Rearrange your workout schedule as best you can, and if you can't, try getting up 30 minutes earlier for a brisk morning walk. Walking is a great form of exercise and can clear your mind so you can start your busy day in the right spirit. Speaking of walking, if you're going to do some holiday shopping, try to park at the end of the lot so you can climb a few more stairs and take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible. ENJOY YOUR BODY WITH MOVEMENT You may not be able to continue exercising, as usual, this holiday season, but you can still add bodyweight exercises to your daily routine and stay active at home. While brushing your teeth or standing in line, start raising your calves. While vacuuming or doing housework, squat and/or walk. If you're transporting groceries or heavy grocery bags or doing holiday decorations, don't forget to lift your legs (and maybe do some biceps curls). It sounds silly at first, but any movement will benefit your body.
